Death of 13-year-old Julia Siegler resonates through biz
Friends and biz associates of industry vet Scott Siegler were rallying around the exec this weekend following the devastating news that his 13-year-old daughter, Julia, was killed in a traffic accident while on her way to school Friday.
Julia Siegler was hit by two cars in what police described as a “horrible accident” on at about 7:20 a.m. while crossing Sunset Boulevard at Cliffwood Drive, near the family home in Brentwood. Siegler was on her way to catch a bus to Harvard-Westlake School, where she was in the eighth grade.
Scott Siegler is a partner in Zelnick Media and has headed its West Coast office since 2002. He previously headed Granada TV’s U.S. outpost, and in the 1980s and ’90s he served as prexy TriStar TV and prexy of Columbia Pictures TV. Julia’s mother, Jody Cukier, was a former film marketing exec at Col and Savoy Pictures.
Friends described Julia as extraordinarily bright and a dedicated student of dance. A number of her friends created a Facebook tribute page and held a memorial Friday night at the accident site. Julia would have turned 14 on March 27.

Initial reports described the accident as a hit-and-run case, but police said Saturday that in fact both drivers stopped and remained at the scene until Siegler was taken away in an ambulance, according to the Los Angeles Times. The Times reported that as Siegler crossed Sunset against a red light, she was grazed by the side-view mirror of the first car, lost her balance and then was run over by the car that followed.
A service for Siegler will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at University Synagogue in Brentwood.
